A lot can happen in 20 years. Just ask Raymond Bartlett. That’s about how long the newly appointed associate vice chancellor/ associate vice president for Finance has been with the University of Houston.

Hired on with UH’s Office of the Treasurer in 1994, Bartlett quickly worked his way up to the role of treasurer – a title he’s held for the last nine years.

“As treasurer, I was responsible for several areas,” said the certified treasury professional. “My oversight included Student Business Services, Risk Management and, of course, the Treasury, which handles everything from UH investments to University credit card activity and issuing debt to fund new buildings.”

Bartlett’s responsibilities are only growing in his new role. Filling the shoes of recently retired Tom Ehardt, Bartlett now oversees several areas including budgeting and accounting for the University as a whole, as well as financial reporting and human resources. The Treasury is still under his watchful eye as well. With over 30 years of experience, 10 of which were in the banking industry, he’s more than qualified to get the job done.

Born in Pennsylvania, Bartlett found himself in Houston after his family relocated here in 1978. He’s happy to have called it home ever since and even raised two children here with his wife of 30 years, Doreen.

While his work here definitely keeps him busy, Bartlett makes time to relax when he can.

“In my spare time I enjoy doing lots of things from attending sporting events to going to the theater,” he said. “I also have lots of little projects around the house that keep me busy, too.”
