University Center

The University Center (UC),   located just inside Entrance 1, is the heart of student activity and offers a wide variety of useful products, services, and opportunities to meet and connect with other people. Though currently under renovation and operating with reduced services, the UC is still home to clean, comfortable lounge space; meeting rooms for conducting organization meetings, social events, and educational programs; and offices for student organizations and student organizational support. When the first phase of renovation is complete in January 2014, the UC will also be home to exciting new dining options including McDonald's and Chick-Fil-A, new and enhance lounge space, a comprehensive Student Organization Suite, and so much more.

The UC Administrative Services and Operations Office is located on the second floor and is responsible for the overall operation of the University Center, University Center Satellite, Student Program Board, and the Child Care Center.

The University Center is also the home of numerous student-services offices and other services:

Cougar Byte Computer Store
The Cougar Byte, a computer store located on the Arbor level of the UC, has computers, calculators, computer-related supplies, printers and a wide variety of software and hardware available for discount sale to students, faculty, and staff. The Cougar Byte is also the authorized computer repair service center for the University of Houston.

Woodforest National Bank
Woodforest is a full-service bank that provides personal and business savings and checking accounts, student loans, personal and corporate VISA and MasterCard credit services, personal and commercial loans, mortgages, individual retirement accounts, direct deposit, international services, travelers checks, brokerage services and payroll services. Woodforest also has twenty-one locations within the Houston metropolitan area.

UC Business Office
Located on the second floor of the UC, the UC Business Office offers services to students, faculty, and staff. Locker rentals are available for on-campus storage. The UC Business Office also sells Metro (local city-wide bus system) packages at discounted prices and International Student IDs for students traveling abroad.

UC Games Room
The UC Games Room is where fun and games are found on campus. The UC Games Room, located on the Arbor level, has bowling lanes, pool tables, table tennis, pinball and the latest video games, all for a small charge. Table games are also available for use at no charge. The UC Games Room is available for individual or group usage/reservations. Leagues are formed each semester with tournaments taking place throughout the school year.

UC Conference and Reservation Services Office
The UC Conference and Reservation Services Office is where meeting room space can be obtained by university student organizations registered with the Department of Campus Activities, by university administrative or academic departments, or by any legitimate off-campus group.

The event planning staff can arrange accommodations for the following locations at the university:

The Veterans' Services Office (VSO)
The Veterans' Services Office offers a computer lab, facsimile services, copy privileges, a scholarship guide, and sponsorship of the annual Veteran's Day Celebration. Knowledgeable student-veteran counselors assist student-veterans and benefits eligible dependents in processing educational benefits and on Department of Veterans' Affairs and Texas veterans' benefits as well as Federal Financial Aid. Recertification for Department of Veterans' Affairs educational benefits is necessary each semester.

UH Wellness
UH Wellness, a university-wide wellness center and clearing house, promotes a supportive environment for achieving a healthy lifestyle. This service provides information, referral and educational programs on stress management, prevention of alcohol and other drug abuse, sexual health, healthy relationships and related issues. Outreach programs may be arranged for campus/community groups. The Peer Education Program (credit course offered) provides the opportunity for students to be trained in providing wellness programs for their peers. Students and others are welcome to visit.

UC Satellite

Located on the northwest side of campus, near the liberal arts colleges, the UC Satellite offers services similar to those at the University Center. For TV breaks, the Satellite has two viewing areas with 2 big-screen TVs. Other available services include a quiet study lounge with Internet connections, a C-store, Little Shasta's Ice cream, and the popular Satellite Games Room. The UC Satellite is also home to Student Publications, home of the The Daily Cougar.

Little Shasta's Cones
Little Shasta's Cones, a smaller version of Shasta's Cones & More, can be found in the UC Satellite Lobby. Little Shasta's offers a selection of your favorite Blue Bell Ice Cream on cone or in a bowl.

Cullen Performance Hall

Cullen Performance Hall, built in 1948 and completely renovated in 1988, is a 1,536 seat Proscenium Theatre located near Entrance 1.

Although it is equipped with modern sound, lighting and rigging systems that accommodate all but the largest productions, the theatre still maintains the historic charm of the original structure. The hall routinely handles a wide variety of events sponsored by departments and organizations at the University of Houston in addition to contemporary music concerts, opera, modern dance, and theatrical performances put on by groups outside the Houston area.

Hilton University of Houston

Built in 1975, the Hilton University of Houston recently completed a $12.5 million renovation to its facilities. The transformed contemporary, stylish "new" property serves as the training hotel for students attending the top-ranked Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. Here, hospitality students work with hotel professionals to gain hands-on experience in guest service, hotel operations and banquet service. The hotel offers 86 hotel guest rooms. And with 25,000 square feet of flexible banquet space - including seven meeting rooms and three ballrooms with capacities ranging from 10 to 600 people - it's the ideal on-campus destination for meetings, banquets, receptions, video conferencing and special events. The Fred Parks Boardroom, on the second floor of the hotel, offers a stylish alternative venue for breakfast, lunch or dinner meetings and features a remarkable wine collection. Eric's Restaurant, located just off the lobby of the Hilton University of Houston, is open seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Featuring casual dining with a Mediterranean flair. Eric's is also a popular spot to meet for happy hour. Bar service is available from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For reservations, please call 713-743-2512.

Barron's Restaurant is a lunch-only operation and is managed and staffed entirely by Hilton College students. Located on the first floor of the South Wing of the Hilton College, hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters. Barron's now features a diner-inspired menu with everything from biscuits and gravy and pancakes to pizza and sandwiches. The food is fresh, tasty and inexpensive and service is quick, making it a favorite lunch spot among students, faculty and staff. Call 713-743-2558 for more information.

Cougar Grounds, located next to Barron's Restaurant, is a student-run coffee shop and the newest campus hotspot for gourmet coffee. Cougar Grounds' menu features a variety of hot and cold gourmet coffees and deluxe teas, fair-trade coffees and signature coffee-blend drinks, including delicious macchiatos, mochas, chai lattes, caramel lattes and more, along with breakfast muffins and pastries, killer chocolate desserts and sandwiches. It is the first university coffee shop in the country managed and staffed by students as part of an educational experience and the gourmet coffee brewed here is second to none.
