Moving Services & Event Support

There are two types of services that are provided by the Moves & Events team. One service is for Moving and one service is for Event Support. For information regarding these two services please see the appropriate section below.

Moving Services

Moving Services is equipped with experienced personnel that can assist with departmental moves. Whether your office is being relocated across the campus, or even if you’re just moving down the hall or around the corner, we have the team members ready to help with lifting heavy boxes, moving file cabinets, furniture, and other equipment.

Move Services Guidance

UH Moves and Events provides moving services support for Faculty, Staff, Students, and Registered Student Organizations (RSO). This includes all RSOs that are sponsored by a college, department, or faculty/staff member.

Every effort is made to schedule moves within the time period requested. Please be aware that a lead time of at least two weeks is required and that moves are handled in the order in which they are requested. Requests with less lead time are subject to availability.

Important Details Regarding Your Service Request

Following the submission of your work request, a follow-up email or phone call with additional questions may be needed regarding your request. A direct connection will be made if the request cannot be fulfilled.

Supplemental Related Support Outside of Moves & Events
  • Disassembly and Reassembly of Furniture Support (performed by UH Maintenance crew)
  • Surplus Property and Warehouse Support (performed by UH Surplus Property and Warehouse)
  • Networking, printer installs, computer connections - IT Support (performed by UIT Support Center)

 Booking Process

All requests are billable and subject to the Facilities Labor Rates. All requests must be submitted at least two weeks before the event. We will do our best to accommodate requests made less than two weeks in advance. To request this service or a quote, submit a request through FIXIT.

Please include the following details as needed:

  • Contact name, department, and phone number designated to coordinate the move
  • Detailed list of items to be moved, including present location of items
  • Final destination for the items being moved 
  • Approximate move date and time
  • Attach a completed and signed Surplus Property Transfer Request Form for items being transfered to the Surplus Warehouse or vice versa. Always follow UH Surplus Property and Warehouse guidelines.

Billable Cost Center

A funding account/cost center can be provided at the time of the request, which will be added to your work order.

In-Person Payments for Student Organizations

Payments can be made in-person via credit/debit card, cash, check, cashier's check, or money order and are processed Monday through Friday 8 am-4 pm. Please be sure to provide your work order number for proper posting.

FAQ’s

Will moving services pack my items before moving them? The Labor Shop does not provide packing services. Items to be moved should be read

Who should I call if I would like to utilize moving services? For campus moves, call FIXIT or submit a work order through self-service to schedule an appointment with the Moving Services. Please visit www.uh.edu/fixit or call 713-743-4948.

 


 

Event Support Services

Regular Hours of Operation 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday - Friday

Service Hours are dependent on the event request and available resources.

 

Event Support Services Guidance

UH Moves and Events provides event-related support for Faculty, Staff, Students, and Registered Student Organizations (RSO). Please be aware that a lead time of at least two weeks is required. Event support requests are handled in the order in which they are received. Lead times of less than two weeks are subject to availability. All event and labor support is billable.

This service includes the following: 

  • Tables, chairs, or tent delivery and setup 
  • Garbage disposal bins delivery and set-up
  • Event breakdown and pickup
Important Details Regarding Event Support Service Requests
  • Following the submission of your service request, the Moves and Events team may follow up by email or phone with additional questions regarding your request. Direct contact will be made if the request cannot be fulfilled.
  • Once a service request is submitted and receives the proper approvals, a quote can be prepared to break down the cost associated with the event.
  • UH Moves and Events drops off and picks up garbage bins for events but does not service them. The event requestor is responsible for having trash bins emptied during and after the event unless additional support for emptying is requested. 
  • UH Moves and Events does not assist with room reservations. This is handled by UH Office of the University Registrar. UH Moves and Events will assist with event set-up and breakdown only after a reservation has been confirmed.
  • If your event is outdoors, please consult with UH Fire Life and Safety to ensure your event location is not blocking any fire lanes.
  • Same-day pickup is required for all outdoor events.
  • UH Moves and Events cannot guarantee the security of provided items after set-up is complete. This means requestors are responsible for their security until they are picked up post-event. Replacement costs for any lost or stolen items can be charged to the requesting department.

 Supplemental Related Support – Additional Requests Needed

  • Locking/Unlocking Classroom with mechanical locks - Custodial Services Support (performed by UH Custodial crew)
  • Locking/Unlocking Buildings for events - Electronic Access Control (performed by UH EAC)
  • Locking/Unlocking Classrooms with card readers – Electronic Access Control
  • Turning-off Irrigation during the event - Support (performed by UH Grounds crew)
  • Providing recycle bins or additional dumpsters for the event - Solid Waste and Recycling Support (performed by UH SW & Recycling crew)
  • Outside lighting, sound systems, generators - Electrical Support (performed by UH Electrical crew)
  • Cleaning the parking lot/areas - Parking Support (performed by UH Parking and Transportation Services)
  • Parking locations/permits – Parking Support (performed by UH Parking and Transportation Services)
  • If food is served at the event - Food Permits Support (performed by UH Fire Life and Safety)
  • Computers, network access, projectors - IT Support (performed by UIT Support Center)
Facility Use Expectations

If the rooms are deemed to be in an unsatisfactory condition post-event, a cleaning fee will be charged at the hourly overtime rate found on the Facilities Billing Rates site.
