UH Graphic Communications Program Celebrated at ‘Main Event'

Thanks to its comprehensive graphic communications program, the University of Houston is a hotbed for emerging designers and artists.

Alumni, students and faculty will celebrate the continuous growth of this innovative program at "The Main Event," from 6 - 9 p.m., Sept. 11 at the River Oaks Theatre. This festive social event will feature a lecture from UH alumnus and award-winning graphic designer Brian Diecks. It also will spotlight several top graphic communications students, who will be awarded $15,000 in scholarships during this evening.

Diecks is a 17-year veteran of entertainment marketing and design. His work has been featured on ESPN, Comedy Central, TNT, Food Network, Independent Film Channel and Showtime. He graduated from UH in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in graphic communications.

"The Main Event" is presented by the UH Graphics Alumni Partnership (UHGAP). Admission is $10, but the event is free for UH students, faculty and alumni and UHGAP corporate partners. Proceeds will benefit UH graphic communications scholarships.

The UH School of Art's graphic communications program prepares student designers through intensive curriculum focused on graphic design methodology, research and theory. It offers both bachelor of fine arts and master of fine arts degrees. For more information, visit www.art.uh.edu/undergrad/graphicComm/progDesc.htm.

UHGAP promotes the value of design education and the role of graphic design in society. It also connects UH design alumni with each other and the graphic communications program. For more information, visit www.uhgap.org/.
