A little bit about myself: I'm on staff at the University of Houston, where I graduated with a BA in Journalism in 1993. I've been on staff since 1991. In addition to full-time work, I began graduate school on a part-time basis in Fall 2007 and am working on a Master of Social Work degree from the UH Graduate College of Social Work. I plan to graduate in December 2010.

My principal on-campus volunteer activity since 2004 has been Cougar First Impressions, including positions as Marketing Chair, Event Chair, and Volunteer Chair. Between 1997 and 2007, I was also very active in Pride Houston, which produces the annual Houston Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Pride Parade & Festival. I served in a variety of communication-related roles for the organization, including overseeing production of the Pride Parade video and the group's website in later years.

My partner Bruce and I met in October 1991 and we had a commitment ceremony in October 1994. We have very different backgrounds, mine in Nebraska with travel in the US Midwest and West, and his in Texas and Saudi Arabia with travel across the globe and schooling in India and Austria. However, we have remarkably similar values and both enjoy entertaining friends, reading and traveling.

One of my odd solitary pleasures is reading comic books, especially DC and Marvel superhero comics, although I also really like Strangers in Paradise, an indie from Houston.
