eInstruction Clicker
The eInstruction Clicker is an easy-to-use interactive student response system that allows you to capture immediate feedback from every student in your classroom. Clickers can be used in a variety of ways in your class to engage students and enhance class participation. Some ways that you might use Clickers are:

  • to deliver in-class surveys or quizzes with immediate assessment results
  • to provide real-time hands-on demonstration of survey and polling methods and analysis
  • to create an environment for group activities in class
  • to create interactivity among students in large classes

Turnitin
Turnitin is an online plagiarism-detection application. Turnitin prevents and detects plagiarism by comparing submitted papers to myriad content that is available on the internet and in its proprietary databases. Turnitin can be used as a deterrent, but it is also a useful educational tool that teaches students how to work with sources and to improve paraphrasing and quoting skills.  In addition to its powerful plagiarism prevention functionality, Turnitin also provides several additional features such as:

  • Online Peer Review
  • Interactive GradeMark
  • Online Gradebook

Wimba Live Classroom
Wimba is a virtual online classroom which supports chat, PowerPoint presentations, application sharing, as well as video and audio for instructors and students.  WebCT Vista has the Wimba powerlink (under More Tools) which allows the instructor to seamlessly add the virtual classroom from within the WebCT environment.  UH instructors also have the option to set up a Wimba classroom outside of WebCT.  Wimba Live classroom can be used to deliver webinars or guest speaker presentations remotely.  Sessions may be archived for subsequent review.  To learn how to use this application, contact us at 713-743-1475, option 2 or email webct@uh.edu.

Podcasting
The term “Podcasting” is an amalgamation of two unique components that become a new item when combined.  According to Wikipedia, “Podcasting is the distribution of audio or video files, such as radio programs or music videos, over the Internet using either RSS or Atom syndication for listening on mobile devices and personal computers” (no date, para. 1).
