Stacey Barton
Hi, my name is Stacey Barton and I am currently a senior merchandising-industrial distribution major in the College of Technology at the University of Houston. This year I will be completing my observation requirements in HISD and my student teaching in Ft. Bend ISD for a minor in marketing education. I am currently working for Morley and Morley Law Offices and Palais Royal, while completing my final year in school. My future job aspirations include teaching, sales, and marketing representative (I haven't decided yet).
Wanda Herfarth, RN
My name is Wanda Herfarth and I am currently employed at Pearland High School as the Health Science Technology Coordinator. I have worked as a registered nurse for the last 19 years. My background in nursing is quite varied: I have worked in neonatal and pediatric intensive care, medical surgical, pediatric clinic, home health, school nursing and orthopedics.
I am married and my husband and I are raising two teenage daughters.
My first teaching experience was with the American Red Cross as a first aid and CPR instructor. I realized that I enjoyed teaching and when I heard about the opening for a teacher at Pearland ISD, I immediately applied and was given the position. I began teaching high school in January 1996, and was given 4 classes and 120 students. It has been quite a challenge and a lot of fun.
I presently teach 22 clinical rotation students and 100 health science students. We have a very active HOSA Club and we plan to compete in the HOSA competition.
My future aspirations include completing the course work and obtaining my teaching certificate. I would like to continue working as a teacher for Pearland High School. I would also like to work in a clinical nursing position in the summers--most likely home health--because I miss working with patients. I consider myself to be a creative and an adventurous person and I look forward to new challenges.
Johnnie Jackson
My name is Johnnie Jackson. I am currently the Marketing Education Coordinator for the Contemporary Learning Center, an alternative middle/high school in HISD>
This is actually a second career for me, as I played in the NFL for 4 years after being drafted from the University of Houston in 1989.
I received my BS from the College of Technology at U of H Main Campus.
On a personal note, I am married and have a daughter.
Madelyn (Lynn) Lucas
I am presently in my fifth year as an adjunct instructor in the Office Administration Department of the Technology Division at Kingwood College. The classes I teach are for students enrolled in the Medical Office Specialist certification program (for those wishing to work in medical facility front-office positions). My undergraduate degree is a BBA in Office Administration and Management. I began teaching as an adjunct based on my work experience in office administration and training. I found that I enjoy teaching, and decided to pursue my master's degree so that I will be qualified to teach full-time in community college programs.
My goals after completing my master's degree are to obtain a full-time teaching position in the Technology Division and to eventually become the program coordinator for the medical office certification program.
I am in the MSOT program with my emphasis on Training and Development. Not having an education background, I chose OCED 6330 as one of my electives to improve my knowledge and skills in working with a cooperative work program. The medical office certification internship program I hope to coordinate requires students to complete 112 intern hours in a medical facility, so it is important for me to be able to manage such a program. I also want to improve my skills using the Internet.
Personal: I am married and have three children - girls, ages 10 and 8 years, and a boy, 4 months.
Thomas Nolen
Tom Nolen is a native Houstonian who attended the University of Houston in the sixties. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education Degrees from Sam Houston University in Huntsville. He is returning to the University of Houston to work toward his certification in Marketing Education.
Joyce H. Owens
My name is Joyce Owens, and I have lived in Texas for the past 28 years. I am a native Arizonan. My husband is a civil engineer with the Texaco refinery in Port Arthur. I have attended Brigham Young University and hold a BBA from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. I have four children: The eldest is a son who is in his fourth and last year in the School of Optometry at the University of Houston and who will make me a first-time grandmother this November. My second child is an accountant with Deloitte & Touche in Houston, and my third and fourth children are twin daughters who are seniors at the University of Houston in the HDFS major in the College of Technology. I am a graduate student in the MSOT program at the University of Houston and lack only five more classes in that program. As you can tell, my family members are great supporters of the University of Houston. Currently, I am a high school teacher in the Business Education Department of Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, TX. I teach all keyboarding classes, Advanced Word Processing, and subjects such as Introduction to Business and Personal Finance. Since I am 52 years old, my future job aspirations are to complete my MSOT degree next year and then apply to teach at the junior college level. I am ready to focus more of my attention on teaching and not so much on "discipline" as is required of public school teachers today. I plan to retire within the next eight years and devote my leisure time to traveling and visiting my family.
Dayna Wrobleski
