National Marketing Education Research Conference
In Cooperation with the marketing education division of the American
Vocational Association, The University of Houston, The University of West
Florida and The University of North Carolina-Greensboro announce a call
for research papers to be presented at the 1998 National Marketing Education
Research Conference. The Conference will be held at Key West, Florida, May
21-24, 1998. Papers must be the products of research efforts by marketing
education personnel.
Conference Goals
- To share the research efforts of Marketing Education personnel in the
nation today. Research that is sufficient in depth that it will stand the
scrutiny of a jury of nationally recognized researchers in general and
vocational education.
- To promote new research efforts by the Marketing Education professional
community as well as introduce critical issues and/or concerns to attendees.
- To provide a scholarly outlet for the interchange of ideas of Marketing
Educators.

Research Submission Guidelines
To qualify for consideration, papers must be products of research efforts
by marketing Education personnel. Requirements are as follows:
- Research papers will be accepted in three (3) broad categories: refereed
papers, reviewed papers and critical issues and/or concerns papers. Refereed
papers will be evaluated by a national jury of readers. Selected members
of the Research Committee of the Conference will review papers in the Reviewed
category and critical issues and/or concerns categories. Only papers presented
by the author during the Conference will be published or submitted to ERIC.
- Refereed Papers: A research paper appropriate for this category must
have sufficient depth and rigor to survive the scrutiny of a National Jury
of recognized researchers.
- Reviewed Papers: Research in this category may be less rigorous in
research design and methodology but of value to the marketing education
profession.
- Critical Issues and/or Concerns Papers: A paper submitted in this category
should provide an in-depth discussion of present and future issues and/or
concerns of interest to the Marketing Education profession.
- Papers will be accepted from the following individuals:
- Persons who have conducted independent or sponsored research in a marketing
education area,
- Persons who have conducted general education research that impacts
on marketing education, and
- Persons who have completed doctoral dissertations or master's theses
that address marketing education.
- Specification and order for Papers:
Standards for papers MUST meet the exact requirements specified below.
The quality and appearance of the final document is dependent on all papers
within the publication. Papers which deviate from these guidelines WILL
NOT be published.
- Cover Page:
- Title of the research
- Author's name
- Complete mailing address
- Telephone number with area code
- E-mail (if available)
- Fax (if available)
- Internet address (if available)
- Indicate type of paper (refereed, reviewed, or critical issue/and/or
concern paper)
- Abstract: Three copies of a one-hundred (100) word abstract.
- Specifications for typed copy:
- Papers must be prepared using a laser printer or letter quality printer
and justified, wherever possible, on standard 8 1/2 X 11, white bond paper,
camera-ready for duplication. Also submit the paper on a floppy disk using
Microsoft Word; indicate which version of the program was used as well
as the platform (e.g. Macintosh).
- Margins must be in accordance with the following standards: 1"
top, 1 1/4" bottom, 1" right and left margins.
- Computer fonts vary, therefore, type specifications should be 12 lines
to the inch on the completed paper and 12 letters and/or spaces to the
inch across the page. Special styles such as bold print for headings are
acceptable.
- Paper may be single-spaced.
- DO NOT print page numbers on the bottom of the paper.
- Page Limitation: The final paper may not exceed 25 pages. This accepted
research paper will appear in the Conference Proceedings following presentation
during the Conference. Papers which are not presented will not be included
in the published document on the floppy disk.
- Style Manual: Papers should adhere to the APA guidelines regarding
style, footnotes, and references. Final papers of research accepted will
be published in the 1998 National Research Conference Report of Marketing
Education (Title for 1998: Marketing Preparation and the Future).
- Number of Copies Submitted: Three (3) copies of the abstract as well
as three copies of the final paper (not to exceed 25 pages) must be submitted.
In addition to these hard copies, the entire paper must be submitted on
a floppy disk.
- When and Where to Submit the Paper: Three copies of abstracts and final
papers must be submitted no later than April 22, 1998, as follows:
One copy of the complete research study (not to exceed 25 pages), one
copy of the abstract, and the floppy disk to:

Airport Information
Key West is served by Delta, American, US Air and Airways International.
It is advisable to make your reservations as early as possible to guarantee
flight space on the day you prefer to travel to and from Key West. The next
closest airport is Miami International, approximately 147 miles north of
Key West.
Key West Information
The conference is planned at the end of the peak season in Key West.
Evenings will be relatively free to explore the sights of Key West. A sunset
cruise is planned for the group on Saturday evening. Optional group activities
will be arranged for your participation.
Hotel Information
Meetings will be held in a local school facility. Therefore hotel information
will be sent separately to individuals who request such information.
Pre-Conference Workshops
Preparations are underway for pre-conference workshops which will expand
the usefulness of this Conference. Additional information will be provided
as soon as arrangements are completed. The dates for these workshops are
May 18-21, 1998.
Conference Proceedings Publication
Conference proceedings will be mailed on disk following the Conference.
This disk will be provided to each participant paying registration at the
Conference and will be available at the price of $15 to other individuals.
The disk will include the cover, introductory pages and papers presented
at the Conference.
