IT recommends Microsoft Windows XP Software upgrade
Microsoft Windows XP, the new Windows operating system, was officially released October 25th, 2001. While this upgrade represents an advance in the Windows operating system, Information Technology recommends deferring the upgrade until the end of the spring 2002 semester.

IT releases Mac OS X upgrade recommendations
Information Technology has released recommendations for customers considering upgrading to Mac OS X. While most customers should plan to upgrade after the end of the fall semester when software such as Microsoft Office v.X for Mac will be available, some customers will benefit from the new operating system today.

Thanksgiving holiday schedule
Information Technology will observe the university's Thanksgiving holiday schedule and will close its offices, beginning Wednesday, November 21, 2001. While most offices will re-open on Monday, November 26, 2001, some will be open over the holiday weekend.

New search engine speeds Web searches
Earlier this semester, Information Technology launched a new, improved search engine. Including several enhanced features, the new engine will make finding information at UH easier than ever.

New e-mail system debuts
IT customers now can choose which of their accounts will get mail sent to their aliases by editing their information in the online directory. In addition, the new e-mail alias management system automatically creates e-mail accounts for faculty and staff when hired and students when admitted. The system also automated the management of UH mailing lists.
