William Dey the son of
John Laurens Dey was born on Staten Island, New York in 1718 and he died in in 1785
in Middlesex County (Princeton or Perth Amboy), New Jersey.
He married Margaret Salter who was born on August 5, 1720 and died on June 16, 1799.
Will of William Dey
In the name of God Amen I William Dey of South Amboy in the County of Middlesex and State of New Jersey being of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to the almighty God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body doe (sic) make and ordain this to be my last will and testament and as tuching such worldly estate whearewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life - I give and bequeath and dispose of the same in amnner and form following. It is my will and I do order that in the first place all my just debts be paid.
I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Margret DEY the sum of one hundred pounds in gold and silver, my best bed and beding, my best horst and riding chair with harnesses compleat, my best cow - all to be her own forever. And it is my will that my executors hereafter named are to pay yearly to my wife Margret, the sum of fifteen pounds in gold or silver, the first payment to be paid in six months after my disceas (sic) to be paid to her every year as long as she remains my widdow (sic) - and it is my will that my wifeMargret shall have my yong (sic) negro wench Kate, to wait upon her as long as she lives or remains a widow, After her discease it is my will that what is left her should be devided (sic) equally among the legatees hereafter named or their survivors. I have given already to my children as followeth - to my son William the sum of thirty pounds, my son Joseph thiry poounds, my son John thirty pounds, Kenneth one hundred and fifty pounds, Peter one hundred fifty pounds, my daughter Rebecca thrity-five pounds, Abba forty pounds, Lydia thirty-five pounds, Jane sixty pounds, my grandson Nemiah MOUNT thirty-five pounds, my daughter Eupphame forty pounds. All these sums is to be deducted out of each ones share, then to be divided equally amongst my children by my executors after that part that each one hase (sic) had allready (sic) is taken out of their shares - and it is my desire (sic) that my executors should discharge a certain boun that my son John is bound for my son Joseph to Gorge (sic) Weatheril before they pay any part of his share to him of any estate. And it is my wish that my grandson Nehemiah MOUNT shall draw his mother's shre equally with the rest of my children.
And it is my will that all my estate of land and moveable shall be sold at publick sale by my executors ___ (?) private sale as soon as they and my legatees think proper after my deceas. And the money ariseing (sic) for the sle to be devided amongst all my legatees as is herebefore mentioned by my executors.
An lastly I doe nominate, constitute and appoint my son William DEY and my trusty freinds (sic) Mathew RUE and W. PERRINE, son of Peter my executors to execute this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four 1784

At least three of their children moved to Mason County, Kentucky by 1793 - about 7 years after the death of their father William Dey (red dot on the map to the right).
- Rebecca Dye was born on July 27, 1738 and died on March 1, 1813
- William Dye II was born on August 1,1740 in Middlesex County, New Jersey and he died in
1806 in Mason County Kentucky in 1808.
William Dye married Phoebe Mounteer in New Jersey. Came to Mason County Kentucky from Plainfield
New Jersey with the Shotwell, Morris, Stout, Drake, Arms and Cahill families.
William Dye purchased 300 acres of land in Mason county Kentucky May 3, 1793. (Deed
book A, page 277. The spelling is William Die. He married Phoebe Mounteer who was born in New Jersey
and
died in Mason County, Kentucky in 1818/19. They had nine children:
- John Dye was born in 1762
- Joseph Dye was born on February 6, 1766
- William Dye was born on December 6, 1768
- Mounteer Dye was born ~ 1770 and Married Elsey Glenn on December 11, 1798
- Ruth Dye was born ~ 1775 and married Robert Glenn on May 12, 1795
- Mary Dye was born on March 12, 1777
- Margaret Dye was born on December 12, 1780
- Abigail Dye was born in 1785 and married Peter Dye (her first cousin) on April 20, 1804
- Luke Dye was born on October 2, 1790
- Nemiah Dye was born in 1742 and he died on February 20, 1799. He married ____ in 1765
- Anne Dye was born on December 16, 1743 and she died on October 1, 1828. Anne married John Duncan on January 20, 1773. One child is reported:
- Lydia Duncan was born on March 11, 1778 (1779) and died in August, 1852. She married John P. Covenhoven on August 27, 1800. He was born on October 3, 1778 and he died after April 12, 1835 in Cranbury, Middlesex County, New Jersey.
His father was Peter Covenhoven who was born on October 18, 1743 in Middlesex County, New Jersey and he died after August 20, 1831. He is buried at Cranbury, New Jersey. His mother was Phebe Dye who was born on October 18, 1743 and died after August 20, 1831. Phebe is buried in Cranbury, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Joseph Dye, the brother of William Dye. Phebe and Peter had 11 children.
At least two of Peter Covenhoven's uncles - Dominicus and Cornelius - served with Ezekiel Dye in the Revolutionary War.
- Joseph Dye was born on June 7, 1746 and he died on April 13, 1815.
- Lydia Dye was born on November 10, 1748 and died in 1804. She married Richard Mount.
- Amy Dye was born on January 14, 1750 and died on May 17, 1813.
- John Dye was born May 17, 1754 in
Plainfield, New Jersey and died January 5, 1822 in Orangeburg, Mason County, Kentucky.
He married Nancy Anne Ely in Plainsfield, New Jersey on October 14, 1777. She was
born on June 9, 1762 and died on July 9, 1821 in Mason County, Kentucky.
John was a private in Capt. Jonathan Combs' Company, 3rd
Regiment, Middlesex County, NJ, during the Revolutionary War (DAR #191642). They migrated to
Mason County, Kentucky following the Revolutionary War along with William and Kenneth Dye in
1790-1792.
John and Anna (Nancy) had at least eight children:
- Letitia Dye
- Margaret Dye was born on March 10, 1781 in Middlesex County, New Jersey, and
died October 10, 1845 in Mason County, Kentucky. She married Jacob Roe on December 29, 1797.
- William Dye was born in 1783
- Robert Roe Dye was born on January 20, 1785 in Middlesex County, New Jersey and died
on February 1, 1837 in Mason County, Kentucky. He married Sarah Wells.
- Lydia Elizabeth Dye was born August 31, 1792 in Middlesex County, New Jersey and
died September 10, 1822 in Mason County, Kentucky. She married Lewis Sentency on March 12, 1804
in Mason County Kentucky.
- John Ely Dye was born in 1800. His father's will notes that John Ely had suffered from the
"fits" and a special provision was made for his future support. He died after a winter trip
on which
he was badly frozen.
- Kenneth Dye was born in 1796 and died in 1817 in Mason County, Kentucky. He married Charity
Merrill on December 17, 1818 in Mason County. They left Kentucky and migrated to Indiana and
died there in the late 1800s. They had at least 11 children and it appears that all of them
were born in Indiana..
- Phoebe E. Dye was born on May 24, 1792 in ____ and died on April 1, 1865 in Mason County,
Kentucky. She married William Stillwell on February 10, 1810 in Mason County, Kentucky.
- Margaret Dye was born on December 17, 1755 and died on February 25, 1777.
She married Hezekiah Mount (yet another Mount rides in) in 1772 and they had a son Nemiah Mount.
- Kenneth Dye was born on May 17, 1756/7 in Plainfield, New Jersey and died in 1817
in Mason County, Kentucky. He married (1) Jane Vanderbeck who died before 1815.
[One of Joseph Dye's daughters had married a Vanderbeck - Joseph would have been Kenneth's uncle]
Kenneth and Jane had 12 children. He married (2) Phoebe Mounter (Montier) Dye (the widow of his
older brother William). His children are listed as:
- David Dye was born in 1797 and died in 1866 in Mason County, Kentucky. He married (1)
Susannan Burroughs and (2) Nancy Patterson in 1822.
- James Dye married Susan Fulcher in 1845
- Hiram Dye married Martha Ann Clift in 1845
- Kenneth Dye was born in 1796
- Rachel Dye died before 1817
- Margaret Dye died before 1817
- Martha Dye died before 1817
- Jane Dye
- Phoebe Dye
- John Dye married Patience Dey
- Kenneth Dye was born in 1796
- Peter Dye was born on April 11, 1782 in Middlesex County, New Jersey. He married Abigail Dye, the daughter of his uncle William Dye.
- Peter Dye was born on April 25, 1758 and died on November 21, 1811. and he
married Margaret Mount.
- Euphame Dye was born on February 3, 1760
Note that three of William's children married Mounts. At this time the places of death
of these children - Margaret, Lydia and Peter are unknown as are the parents of these
Mounts.
