Diagram 1B: Examples of events distributions (from Gradstein and Agterberg, in press). In order to increase biostratigraphic resolution, attempts are made to recognize up to 5 correlative events along the stratigraphic range of a taxon. Unfortunately, such events often have limited geographic traceability.
