- Solving for heat at constant pressure (q P) :
- Enthalpy is defined such that, _H, the change in enthalpy is equal to q P, the heat gained or lost by the system at constant pressure, so:
- E, P, and V are state functions, so H is also a state function.
- So, _H depends only on the difference between Hfinal and Hinitial.
- Most chemical changes occur at constant pressure, so _H is more relevant and easier to obtain than _E: to find _H, we measure q P.
