• A gas sample is described by 4 variables: pressure (P),  volume (V), temperature (T), and the no. of mol of gas (n).

• Three key relationshipsóBoyleís, Charlesís, and  Avogadroís lawsóexist among the four gas variables.

• These are special cases of an all-encompassing relationship  among the variables called the ideal gas law.

• At a given temperature, the volume of a gas is inversely  related to its pressure.
