2. Oxoacid names are similar to those of the oxoanions, except for two suffix changes:

Anion ì-ateî suffix becomes an ì-icî suffix in the acid.

Anion ì-iteî suffix becomes an ì-ousî suffix in the acid.

The oxoanion prefixes ìhypo-î and ìper-î are retained.

Thus, BrO4ñ is perbromate, and HBrO4 is perbromic acid;

IO2ñ is iodite, and HIO2 is iodous acid.
