- Binary ionic compounds are those composed of ions from only two elements.
- The name of metal cations is the same as the name of the metal. Metal names often end in ì-ium.î Ca Ca 2+
- The name of the anion takes the root of the nonmetal name and adds the suffix ì-ide.î Br Br ñ
For example, the anion formed from bromine is named bromide (brom + ide)
- Therefore, the compound formed from the metal calcium and the nonmetal bromine is ìcalcium bromide.î
