- Molecules consist of a fixed number ratio of atoms of the component elements.
- The mass of any sample of ammonia is 14 parts nitrogen and 3 parts hydrogen.
- One nitrogen atom has 14 times the mass of 1 hydrogen atom, so mass ratio is 14 (1 nitrogen) to 3 (3 hydrogens)
