- In contact with each other, an n-type and a p-type semiconductor form a p-n junction.
- Across a p-n junction, current flows readily in the n-to-p direction, but not at all in the p-to-n direction.
- Amorphous solids are noncrystalline. Many have microcrystalline regions connected by large regions with many defects.
- Charcoal, rubber, and glass are examples of amorphous solids.
- When quartz (SiO 2) is melted and cooled slowly it forms crystals but if the liquid is cooled rapidly it forms amorphous quartz glass.
