Introduction

The goal of this course is to provide a general introduction to the study of child development from conception to early adolescence. We will discuss historical perspectives as well as current theory and research in the areas of prenatal, perceptual, cognitive, language, and social development. By the end of this course, you should have a better understanding of the process of development, have acquired knowledge of research issues and methodologies, and appreciate the multiple sources of influence on the developing child.

Hello all! Here are some quick updates:

-Your TA's (Kaela Parish) e-mail address is kaelaparish@yahoo.com. You will need to schedule an appt with her if you would like to review your exam, as you will not be getting to keep those.

-On chapter 1 book questions: ignore the question about Clark Hull; he has been removed from this edition. On chapter 2 book questions: ignore the part on question 2 about "specimen record"; it too has been removed from this edition.

-Here is the breakdown for your exam 1:

34 multiple choice questions (worth 2 points each):

11 on theories

8 on methods

10 on prenatal development/birth process

5 on infant perception

4 Short answer questions (worth various amounts of points per question) you will have to answer the first 2 and choose one between questions 3 and 4):

1 on Theories

1 on methods

2 on prenatal development

So there you have it. Please remember: you will only be tested on infant perception through the end of visual development, so anything up to that point is fair game. Please remember to bring a big blue scantron and have a 4 digit code number ready to write down on your exam. You will not get to keep your exam, so make sure your name is also on both your scantron and physical exam. You will be required to show your school id to the TA when you turn in your exams. Please e-mail me with any questions and good luck!
