History of Gamma Omega Chapter

The Gamma Omega Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha was installed at the University of Houston on February 15, 1956. This is the date that all the sororities currently on campus were allowed to form as national organizations. Before we became apart of ZTA, we were a local sorority known as Delta Sigma.

We just celebrated our 40th anniversary and we are going stronger than ever! We pride ourselves at being leaders on the UH campus. We actively participate in not only greek sponsored events, but campus events and athletics. All of our members are also active in at least one other campus organization. We encourage each of our members to develop her own strengths and leadership abilities.

Gamma Omega has a chapter house located just minutes from the UH campus. Eight members live in the house and any member is welcome to move in upon vacancy. Our house provides a great place for chapter meetings, committee meetings, study time, or just hanging out with your sisters.

Our chapter is very honored to have the support of a very strong alumnae organization on the Houston Association. This group of women dedicate countless hours to service projects throughout the city and has consistently won top honors at our national convention. We are also privileged to have the support of other Houston area alumnae organization who are always there for us.

Besides Zeta Alumnae, Gamma Omega also has the support and encouragement of its parents. The Mother's Club of Houston is a ZTA organization of all Houston area mothers who have a daughter who is a Zeta. Upon pledging ZTA, each New Member's mother receives a letter from the Mother's Club inviting her to participate.

Three people who are cherished to our chapter are are Verna Hicks Patton, her sister Barbara Beck, and Inez Bryant. Verna Hicks Patton and Barbara Beck are two of our chapter's charter members. Mrs. Patton currently sits on our National Council as the National Ritual Chairman. Inez Bryant was the first General Advisor to our chapter. We were her girls and she dedicated countless hours to the success of our chapter. In her honor there are both state and national awards and scholarships that bear her name. She will always be a lasting legacy to our chapter.
