Notes, Additions and Corrections

  • Case Book BL Harley MS 2143 Misdemeanor in fixing false seals of the city of Danske [Danzig; Gdańsk] to testimonials. Pardon before conviction. Henry Saxley of London, merchant, accused by Sir Robert Catlin, chief justice of England, that the said Saxley had fixed and fastened certain seals of the city of Danske to certain writings to testimonials, without the knowledge and consent of the senate and counsel of the said city of Danske by means whereof he obtained a verdict against his factor, upon an action by him brought to the value of £800 and odd for which offence being brought to the bar and the same having been proved by the said Justice Catlin to be false was not punished for that the defendant in open court exhibited the Queen’s pardon.
