  • Case Book BL Harley MS 2143 fo. 8v. Justices of peace and the High Sheriff fined for their negligence and partiality in not resorting to the place to appease a riot and rioters. Bagott, Sheriff of Staffordshire, Sir John Bowes, Adderly and Stafford, justices of peace of the same county, defendants, at the suit of Mr Attorney General, plaintiff, convicted for their negligence and partiality in forbearing the due execution of justice upon the malefactors convicted in this court for the great riot committed at Drayton Bassett in the same county for which offences in not resorting to the place during the continuance of the riot, nor examining, committing to prison or recording of the force upon their own views, by the statute of 22 and 13 Henry IV [sic], they were committed to the Fleet and fined at £200 apiece.
