  • H1590 A: Cornwall. Edward Beale v. John Carter. Trespass assault and imprisonment for 6 hours in August 1588 at St Colomb Major. As to only two hours of imprisonment, Carter pleaded that Beale brought an infant under the age of two months and put the infant on the ground in the church and wanted to leave the infant there without sustenance or aid, so that the infant was in danger of death. Carter, as constable, stopped him from leaving and imprisoned him for two hours to force him to re-take the infant; he released Beale on the promise that Beale would take the infant back. [2] rcp
