From a Minute of Secretary Cecill.
TRUSTY and welbeloved, we grete you well, and thank yow for your grete travell taken in our Seruice. We haue ordred that, whensoeuer the Lord Gray shall be appoynted to enter into Scotland, Sir James Crofts shuld also be adjoy with hym, to the Intent that if any Mishapp shuld come to the sayd Lord Gr the other might take the principall Charge and Conduction of our People. A therefore in his absence we haue also commanded our Coosyn of Norfolk to commit the Charge of our Towne of Barwyk to yow, and of the two Wardenryes, in the Absence of the Lord Grey; which our Pleasure is, ye shall, as our sayd Lieutence shall order, take and keep to our use, untill the Returne of them both to the Charge, and doo authorise yow to make choise of such skillfull and discrete Captaynes to be in our sayd Towne, as shall seme mete to yow, without any notable hyndrance as the purposed Exployet.
