Low-Cost Group Therapy for Depression Available at UH
The PRSC is offering low-cost group therapy treatment through its Depression Research Clinic (DRC). Small groups led by graduate student therapists under the supervision of UH psychology faculty will meet for 90-minute sessions once a week for 12 weeks.
“We have evaluated this therapy program in a number of studies funded by federal research grants and found it to be effective. Now, we are trying to offer it to the public at affordable rates while training new therapists,” said Lynn P. Rehm, professor of psychology.
The DRC offers a structured cognitive-behavioral group therapy program for adults who are experiencing clinical depression. This self-management therapy program teaches people about the nature of depression and how to counteract different components of the disorder. Free individual assessments conducted before, during and after treatment are aimed at continuing to evaluate the program’s effectiveness for each participant.
The groups are open to any interested adult. For costs, assessment appointments and general information, please call the PRSC at 713-743-8600.
