GEORGE MAGNER AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
IN UNDERGRADUATE ACADEMIC ADVISING
ODOMS HELPS STUDENTS NAVIGATE TO
SUCCESS
When it comes to helping University of Houston students,
Landis Odoms goes beyond the typical 8 to 5 schedule.
As undergraduate adviser 1 in the sociology and anthropology departments,
Odoms often works evenings and weekends, participating in orientation
sessions and sometimes speaking to high school students about UH.
His dedication to students has earned him the George Magner Award
for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising.
His commitment is well-known among anthropology and sociology professors,
all of whom supported his nomination for the award. In a letter
of support, Odoms is described as “a one-person, one-stop
advising and planning machine.”
The award, which carries a $500 check and a plaque, is given to
staff and faculty members who demonstrate excellence in student
advising.
