The University of Houston System has appointed Dennis Fouty
as UH System associate vice chancellor for information technology
and chief information officer (CIO) and UH associate vice president
for information technology and CIO.
“I am very proud of our information technology organization
and the University of Houston,” Fouty said. “My
goal is to better define IT and build on the successes of the
past to develop new ways to serve the university.”
Fouty has served as the interim CIO since November 2004. During
that time, he restructured IT to align it more closely with
university objectives.
Fouty joined UH in May 1995 as director of the Department of
Telecommunications. In December 1996, he was promoted to director
of Computing and Telecommunications Services. Later, he was
named associate vice chancellor for the UH System and associate
vice president for computing and telecommunications services.
Before coming to UH, Fouty served as Northwestern University’s
vice president for planning and development. A former professor,
he also taught IT courses at UH. Fouty has been a consultant
for MCI Inc. and TSI Inc./Walt Disney World and the Cincinnati
Bell Telephone Co. He holds bachelor’s and master’s
degrees in management from the University of Nebraska and a
doctorate in educational administration from Ohio University.
