September 30, 2004 COMMITTEE SET TO SEARCH FOR NEW
Seventeen administrators, faculty and staff from across the University of Houston System (UHS) have been tapped to serve on a committee formed to fill the system’s and University of Houston’s chief academic officer position. “The search committee is charged with conducting an open, nationwide search for a new senior vice chancellor/senior vice president and provost, ensuring that the process conforms to both the spirit and letter of university policy and procedures as well as of state and national law,” said UHS Chancellor and UH President Jay Gogue, “As always, the university is committed to recruiting a diverse group of candidates of the highest caliber.” Gogue has charged the committee with identifying three to five candidates. He then will make a decision based on the committee’s recommendations. Paul Chu, T. L. L. Temple Chair in Science and professor of physics, will chair the committee, which held its first meeting Tuesday, Sept. 28. Last September, Gogue appointed Jerald W. Strickland, former College of Optometry dean, interim senior vice chancellor/senior vice president and provost after Edward P. Sheridan resigned from that position.
