OSS EXCEEDS FUND-RAISING GOALS
Thanks to the generosity of
University of Houston faculty, staff, students and other Houstonians,
Operation School Supplies (OSS) has surpassed last year’s
fund-raising efforts, raising almost $145,000 during the 2004 campaign.
Collecting $10,000 more worth of school supplies
than in 2003, OSS volunteers were able to purchase 27,400 red UH
pencils that were distributed to 181 schools in 24 school districts
in greater Houston. The fund-raiser also collected $3,000 toward
the Sponsor a School/District program.
Houston Alumni Organization co-founded OSS 14 years
ago with the Houston Coca-Cola Bottling Company; H-E-B became a
partner in 2002. Other 2004 sponsors include KRIV-TV Fox 26, KXTN-TV
UPN 20, KHMX-FM 96.5, the Houston Astros, United Way of America,
the Houston Zoo and 211 Texas.
“We’re very excited that we exceeded
our goal this year,” said Jeff Fuller, assistant director
of admissions and OSS committee chairman for the last four years.
“We’re looking forward to next year and raising even
more.”
