KUHT-TV TO HOST PUBLIC FORUM
ON IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION
The city’s public television
station is calling on all Houstonians, including the University
of Houston community, to participate in a public forum on globalization’s
impact on the local economy and job market.
KUHT-TV, Channel 8, will explore the issue on its
weekly primetime show, “the connection,” at 9 p.m. Aug.
10 and 5 p.m. Aug. 15. Then at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19, the station will
host a public forum featuring panelists who will discuss and answer
questions on the topic. Small group discussions will follow.
Panelists will include Thomas DeGregori, UH professor
of economics; John Beddow, Houston Business Journal’s group
publishers; Lesley Ramsey, the Texas Fair Trade Coalition’s
co-director; and Richard Shaw, Harris County AFL-CIO Council’s
secretary and treasurer.
Seating is limited at the forum and an RSVP is required
by Aug. 16. To RSVP, visit RSVP
online or call (713) 743-8559.
The forum is part of a national project sponsored
by By the People: America in the World, an initiative of MacNeil/Lehrer
Productions that aims to enhance the national conversation on America's
role in the world through a series of national and local broadcasts
and events.
