International math societies to meet
at UH
More than 400 mathematicians from 38 states and
19 countries will gather at the University of Houston next month
to see how their research adds up.
The Sixth International Joint Meeting of the American
Mathematical Society and the Sociedad Matematica Mexicana will be
held on campus May 13-15.
Ten faculty members from UH’s department of
mathematics will be giving talks at the meeting: Bernhard G. Bodmann,
post-doctoral associate; Edward J. Dean, associate professor; Siemion
Fajtlowicz, professor; Martin Golubitsky, Cullen Professor; Jiwen
He, associate professor; Kresimir Josic, assistant professor; Klaus
Kaiser, professor; Tsorng-Whay Pan, associate professor; Vern I.
Paulsen, professor; and Richard Sanders, associate professor.
Three mathematics faculty members are co-authors
of talks: Roland Glowinski (three talks) Cullen Professor; Manos
Papadakis, assistant professor; and Golubitsky.
Other UH participants include: Marc Garbey, professor
in the College of Technology; Donald J. Kouri, professor in the
department of chemistry; and Ioannis Konstantinidis, post-doctoral
fellow in the department of computer science.
