The mission of the UH Strategic Energy Alliance (UHSEA) is to establish the University of Houston as a recognized leader locally and globally in energy education and research with clearly identified strategic core competencies. It will achieve this status quickly by leveraging its location in the geographic center of Houston, the global capital of energy. It will enhance UH’s status and that of the region by helping greater Houston and the Gulf Coast to adapt and lead the rapidly changing dynamics of energy throughout the 21st century.

The Core Operating Team has responsibility for the following:
  1. Coordinating internal and external assessments of the University of Houston's energy educational and research capabilities
  2. Developing a strategic framework on the University of Houston's energy resources and capabilities with identification of core competencies and areas of opportunities for core competencies along with critical capability gaps
  3. Providing energy networking and information sharing forums within the University of Houston and externally
  4. Supporting key strategic energy initiatives and recommending resource allocations to the University of Houston leadership accordingly
  5. Developing major funding proposals in support of the strategic energy framework
  6. Organizing quarterly meetings of the UHSEA Leadership Council and periodic meetings brining together the hub and spokes
  7. Providing support, including policy recommendations to the Energy Collaborative under the Greater Houston Partnership
  8. Briefing the University of Houston's administrative leadership on status and progress of becoming a leading energy university
  9. Facilitating interdisciplinary energy projects and initiatives
  10. Supporting energy research cluster initiatives within the University of Houston and the external community

The Leadership Council has the following responsibilities:
  1. Facilitating the development of internal assessments of the University of Houston's energy educational and research capabilities
  2. Assessing the results of internal and external assessments and providing recommendations accordingly
  3. Reviewing the strategic framework and providing feedback and recommendations
  4. Supporting the development of strategic plans for key energy research and educational capabilities
  5. Meeting quarterly with the Core Operating Team
  6. Encouraging organic energy initiatives
  7. Participating and encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations on energy strategic initiatives, projects, and funding opportunities
  8. Reviewing overall status and progress of becoming a leading energy university
