U-Th-Pb Chronology of TOC-rich Shale – Constraints on Depositional Ages and Diagenetic Histories
  • Description: Use radiogenic isotope geochemistry and petrologic analyses to understand the timing of shale deposition, U mobility, and diagenesis of source and reservoir rocks.
  • Work Scope: Document rock textures and mineralogy. Measure in situ trace element concentrations and U-Th-Pb isotopic compositions of U and Th-rich materials by laser ablation. Model the U mobility and Th-Pb depositional ages of phosphate minerals.
  • Status: In Progress.
Geochemical and Petrologic Studies of Authigenic Silica
  • Description: Use petrologic analyses and Si and O isotopic compositions to understand the formation mechanisms of silica cements and other precipitations that decrease porosity of potential reservoir rocks and surficial silica deposits.
  • Work Scope: Document rock textures and mineralogy. Measure Si isotopic compositions of silica by MC-ICP-MS and laser ablation. O isotopes measured at collaborator institutions.
