Linking Sediment Dispersal, Stratal Architecture, and Tectonic Subsidence Mechanisms in the Late Cretaceous Cordilleran Foreland Basin
  • Description: This project will evaluate mechanisms for observed changes in basin architecture by integrating sandstone compositional data, detrital thermo- and geochronology, high-resolution sequence stratigraphy, high-resolution isopach maps, geohistory analysis, and forward stratigraphic, flexural, and geodynamic modelling.

Identifying Sediment Sources and Routing of Transcontinental Drainages During Intraplate Deformation
  • Description: We will specifically address whether a transcontinental fluvial system transected the core Ancestral Rocky Mountain (ARM) region prior to ARM deformation by documenting the detrital zircon and monazite record of sediment provenance in pre-orogenic (early Mississippian) strata. We will also evaluate the timing of reintegration of the transcontinental drainage by documenting sediment provenance changes in synorogenic and post-orogenic (Pennsylvanian–Early Triassic) strata.
