ENERGY NIGHT PREVIEW

The Energy Coalition, the largest energy-related student organization on campus, will host its third annual Energy Night next month. The event will feature several industry leaders who will share about their experience in the energy field and how they got to where they are today. Energy Night is meant for all UH students interested in or curious about the energy industry. Attendees will have opportunity to network with other energy-focused students, play games and win prizes.
Ron Corn is senior vice president of Petrochemicals for Chevron Phillips Chemical. He is responsible for the olefins, NGL and aromatics product lines and is accountable for Chevron Phillips Chemical’s Saudi joint ventures.
Corn graduated with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois in 1979. He started his career at Chevron USA’s Richmond refinery. In 1991, after serving as an analyst at Chevron U.S.A.’s San Francisco headquarters, he transferred to Chevron’s Port Arthur Refinery and served as cracking area supervisor and chemicals operations manager. In 1996, he moved to Chevron Chemical’s Houston office as olefins supply chain manager.
At the creation of the Chevron Phillips Chemical joint venture in 2000, Corn was named olefins business manager and subsequently served as polyethylene business manager and global business development manager.
Ryan McGeachie was named Chief Commercial Officer, Structured Products Americas with BP's energy trading and marketing business in February 2015. McGeachie brings an extensive background in leadership, commercial performance, compliance and risk management. His most recent role was managing director, U.S. Consumers within Structured Products Americas. Prior to his MD role, he was regional office leader – Stamford, Connecticut and vice president marketing & origination NE power. He also served as regional office leader - Indianapolis and vice president marketing & origination natural gas, and previously chief credit officer of BP Energy Company in Houston.
McGeachie holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Calgary and is a certified financial analyst.
David Reid serves as the chief marketing officer at National Oilwell Varco, Inc. (NOV). Reid is responsible for developing the market and strategic engine of NOV across regional operations and business segments in order to offer their customers a most valued position in their relative markets. He has been vice president of drilling and well services division at international association of drilling contractors since January 2012.
He has been with National Oilwell Varco and its predecessors for 19 years, and in the oil industry for 22 years. He serves on the NOV and Schlumberger IntelliServ Joint Venture Board. Reid also serves as the chairman of the IADC Advanced Rig Technology Committee and a founding member of the SPE Drilling Systems Automation Technical Section.
David Payne is vice president of drilling and completions for Chevron. He began his career with Getty Oil Company in Santa Maria, California in 1981. Prior to his current position he was the drilling manager in Bangkok, Thailand. He has held various engineering and management positions in California, Trinidad and Tobago, Louisiana, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
Payne graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1981 with a Bachelors of Science in petroleum and natural gas engineering.
Payne is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and has served in various roles for local chapters including section chairman in Santa Maria, California.
