This website will give you information about student employment.

Types of student employment

  1. CWS
    The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program is a government-subsidized student employment program designed to assist students in financing their post-secondary education. In order to be eligible for Work-Study (WS), students must document financial needs every year by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAQs about CWS
  2. NCWS
    Employers must pay 100% of the student's wages out of their own funds.
  3. Graduate Assistants (TA, RA, IA)

March 15 Deadline to Review with Employee and Upload to PS

In order to hire a CWS student, faculty and staff must:

  1. Complete the annual CWS Supervisor training
    • Register for training; training information
  2. Complete agreement form and sent to the work-study office
  3. Register in Cougar Pathway (Do not need to re-register each year)

Once the above items are completed, faculty and staff may begin the process for hiring.

Non-College Work-Study

In order to hire a NCWS student, faculty and staff must:
No training is required

  1. Register in Cougar Pathway (Do not need to re-register each year)

Once the above item is completed, faculty and staff may begin the process for hiring.

Graduate Assistants

In order to hire a Graduate Assistant student, faculty and staff must:

Final candidate selected—ready to hire?

Once you have selected your final candidate and they have accepted, please follow these steps:

  1. Notify all applicants you have selected a finalist and that they were not selected for the position (PDF—check on process)
  2. Email hireuh@uh.edu to close your position

After these steps have been completed, you are done with Cougar Pathway. Please, transition to the traditional UH HR hiring process as outlined by your department or your department’s business administrator.
