UH Celebrates Being ‘Houston’s University’ with New Marketing Campaign By Francine Parker

August 16, 2016–Since its founding in 1927, the University of Houston has enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with the city it was created to serve. Now nearly 90 years later, a new institutional marketing campaign boldly acknowledges that relationship.

The new “Not just the University of Houston. Houston’s University” campaign highlights UH’s impact on the development and momentum of its hometown, the nation’s fourth largest city.

The six-month campaign, which was launched recently, strives to emotionally engage audiences with the University celebrating UH’s crucial role in the city’s economy, culture and sports through TV commercials, print and web ads and billboards.

houston's universityThe campaign employs simple graphics—UH’s signature red and white school colors and interlocking logo—as not to distract from its powerful message. Slogans include “Whose City? Coogs City, Houston’s University,” “Energy University, Energy Capital of the World, Houston’s University” and “Phi Slama Jama to Phi Beta Kappa, Houston’s University."

Another slogan focuses on UH's partnership with the community. "UH and the Texas Medical Center: a healthy relationship. Houston's University."

”We are proud of this latest institutional marketing campaign, which targets our alumni, students, friends and supporters of the University as well as other Houstonians,” said Lisa K. Holdeman, interim associate vice president for university marketing, communication and media relations. “The campaign’s theme is straightforward but right on point—the University of Houston is Houston’s University. It’s important to remind everyone of that. ”

The campaign includes commercials airing on Comcast and KTRK-TV, Channel 13 and ads in the Houston Chronicle and its website And motorists also will get a glimpse of the campaign. The various slogans can be seen on billboards throughout the city, including along Interstate 45 and Highway 59 and outside UH’s Energy Research Park. A large banner, which repeats the Houston University theme, will greet travelers at Houston Hobby Airport starting in October.

This new marketing campaign ends in December.
