Graduate Programs
Our College offers eleven Master of Science degree programs through four departments. Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Human Development and Consumer Sciences, and Information and Logistics Technology. The balance of theory and real-world applications combined with your commitment and creative invention put you ahead of the game in your future career.

The Master of Science in Engineering Technology - Biotechnology Track - emphasizes bioprocessing, protein engineering, computational biology, and federal regulations. Designed to help prepare individuals to conduct or supervise research and development in biotechnology or medical fields, this highly inter- and multi-disciplinary degree defines biotechnology education and research for the future.

The Master of Science in Engineering Technology that focuses on Computational Health Informatics is a highly interdisciplinary degree, which prepares the next generation of professionals for careers in the technological transformation of healthcare. The Human Resource Development Master of Science degree at the University of Houston is for professionals who seek to lead, facilitate, and sustain learning and change in diverse organizations.
Students who complete the program develop core competencies in instructional design, e-learning, adult learning, evaluation, leadership, and change. Our graduates work in varied functions such as: human resources, talent development. In addition, our graduates are known for their performance data applications in executing learning and change strategies.
In a recent survey, 64 percent of alumni reported that the course projects assisted them in securing employment. In addition, 67% reported changing jobs after graduation. Overall, our alumni reported a 10 to 20% salary increase after graduation.

The Master of Science degree in Information System Security is a hands-on program designed specifically to prepare individuals for responsible leadership roles in the technology-based and information-based workplaces. Designed for working professionals with the skills to assess the security needs of information systems and then to lead and mange the implementation and maintenance of the recommended security solutions.
Recognized by the Project Management Institute, the program includes key management skills within the project management framework. Coupled with the Center for Information Security Research and Education, the program offers you an opportunity to participate in innovative applied research. Admissions Checklist
- Online Application: The online application is submitted through the Office of the Graduate School.
- Application Fee: The application fee for all applicants to graduate programs in the College of Technology is $75. International applicants must also pay an additional $75 International Application processing fee for a total of $150.
- Official Transcripts: An official transcript must be provided by the college or university from which you received your bachelor's degree; additional transcripts reflecting any coursework since receiving your bachelor's degree must also be provided. All transcripts must arrive in a sealed envelope from your college or university.
- Note on GPA Requirement: Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants may be conditionally admitted with a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- Three(3) Letters of Recommendation
- A Personal/Goal Statement: A personal/goal statement is a 1-2 page essay describing your current employment and your professional intentions. You may want to identify aspects of your previous experience that indicate promise in your selected goal. You may also wish to discuss special circumstances, unique experiences, etc.
- Resume (optional)
- Entrance Exam Scores: Please submit official exam scores. Please note exams must have been completed within the last 5 years. See the "Entrance Exams" section below for more information on entrance exams and related requirements.
- TOEFL or IELTS Exam Scores (International Students Only): Students who do not have a US bachelor’s degree or a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an English-speaking country must also sit for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or IELTS exam. The minimum score requirement for TOEFL is 79 with a minimum writing score of 20 and IELTS is 6.5. with a minimum writing score of 6.5.
Entrance Exams
The College of Technology participates in the UH Graduate School's GRE/GMAT Waiver program for UH main campus undergraduate students. To be eligible, future College of Technology graduate students must meet the following qualifications:
- Students must have graduated from the University of Houston main campus within the three (3) years preceding the term for which they are applying.
- Students must have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.3.
- All prospective MS, Human Resource Development student applicants from an accredited university, who have completed a Bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or greater will be exempt from GRE/GMAT.
This program only waives the submission of GRE or GMAT scores from the application process and does not guarantee admission to any degree program. Students should be aware of application deadlines, and should also be aware that this program is part of a pilot program and may be discontinued for future terms.
For students not eligible to participate in the GRE/GMAT Waiver program, here are the required entrance exams for all students:
