Since 1941, the University of Houston Technology Division at the Cullen College of Engineering has been committed to workforce development, community enrichment, and corporate progress. We accomplish this purpose by integrating practical innovation into academic studies that prepare learners with proficient technology expertise.

Pursuing a degree in Technology Leadership and Innovation Management and Applied Innovation provides undergraduate students and experienced professionals aspiring to build successful careers, with the knowledge to create, communicate, and commercialize new solutions. In the graduate level Construction Management Engineering Technology Innovation and Management courses, students gain greater knowledge to heighten their leadership competencies. Corresponding industry-recognized Innovation Blue Belt and Black Belt certifications also complement our degree programs. These activities validate program participants as professional experts in the proven disciplines of innovation as an applied science and management expertise.

 

The Case for Innovation Skills

Nearly all employers (95%)  surveyed by the Association of American Colleges and Universities say they prefer to hire students with skills that contribute toward innovation in the workplace. A study conducted by GE revealed that 74% of global executives indicate a lack of problem solving and leadership skills impeded their organizations’ progress. According to the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2018, at least 54% of all employees will require significant upskilling in innovation by 2022. The Price Waterhouse Coopers Annual Global CEO Survey states that number one concern of chief executive offices in 2020 is the innovation skills gap. In addition, The Conference Board C-Suite Challenge™ Report 2020 calls “building an innovative culture” among the top-three most pressing internal concerns of 740 CEO’s surveyed globally.
