University Commencement for the Technology Division

Date: Saturday, May 11, 2024
Ceremony I: 9:00 AM
Ceremony II: 2:00 PM
Location: Fertitta Center

Ceremony I — Undergraduate Candidates: Report to the Athletic Center promptly at 7:30 am dressed in your cap and gown. You will receive final instructions at that time. The procession will begin promptly at 8:45 am. Note: If you are late, there is no guarantee that you will walk across the stage.

Ceremony II — Graduate Candidates (PhD & Masters): Report to the Athletic Center promptly at 12:30 PM dressed in your cap and gown. You will receive final instructions at that time. The procession will begin promptly at 1:45 PM. Note: If you are late, there is no guarantee that you will walk across the stage.

Face masks are optional and may be worn during the ceremony for those who choose to do so.

Graduation Deadlines

  • March 1, 2024 — End of regular filing period to apply online for May 2024 graduation with non-refundable $25 fee. Go to myUH to apply.
  • March 29, 2024 — End of late filing period to apply online for May 2024 graduation with non-refundable $50 fee. Go to myUH to apply.

 

Graduate Students

PhD Dissertation and Master Thesis students must submit your first draft for review two weeks before you defend or the latest by Tuesday, April 16, 2024 to Miranda Vernon-Harrison by email at mavernon-harrison [at] uh.edu (mavernon-harrison[at]uh[dot]edu). Graduation candidates must successfully defend the thesis/dissertation by Tuesday, April 30, 2024. After being approved by Miranda Vernon-Harrison, your thesis or dissertation must be submitted for binding to her by Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

 

Grad Fair

The bookstore will host a Graduation Fair on March 4–5, 2024 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. It will be held in the bookstore in the UC, lower level, or call them at 713-748-0923.

 

Graduation Celebration

Date: April 11, 2024
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Students can pick up grad fair orders. Bulk orders will be available for those that did not order online or at the grad fair. These are first come, first serve on sizing.

University Commencement Duration

The program itself will be approximately 1½ hours long.

 

Academic Regalia

All graduates participating in the Commencement ceremonies are required to wear academic regalia. Graduation regalia may be ordered at the UH Bookstore Graduation Fair or directly from Herff-Jones online. Last day to order online is April 15, 2024. Orders will be shipped to the student. Any student trying to order after the cut-off date can purchase from the UH Campus Store once we receive our bulk order. For questions regarding regalia purchase or rental, call the UH bookstore at 713-748-0923.

 

Invitations and Announcements

Students may order personalized announcements from Herff Jones at the UH Bookstore Graduation Fair or directly from Herff Jones at 281-379-3825 or online.

 

Honors

Undergraduates who are graduating with honors may purchase Honors Cords from the University Bookstore for approximately $14.50 plus tax. You do not need to take any verification of Honors awards to purchase the cords. (We are very sorry, but graduate students are not eligible for Honors.) The bookstore will have a verification list to check for honors.

Students to whom the Fall 2010 catalog applies should refer to the following Honors policy:

Undergraduate students who complete their degree requirements will graduate with the stated academic honors if they achieve the following grade point averages earned in the last fifty-four (54) hours (all of which must be A, B, C,. . . letter-grade courses) completed at the University of Houston. Grades of S, U, I and W are not assigned grade point values and are not used in the computation of the grade point average.

Honors Grade Point Averages

3.90 to 4.0 - Summa Cum Laude (with highest honors)

3.70 to 3.89 - Magna Cum Laude (with high honors)

3.50 to 3.69 - Cum Laude (with honors)

 

Cougar Spirit Cords

The Cougar Spirit Cord is a red and white honor cord that graduating Coogs wear at the university commencement to show pride and support for your university. More information here.

 

Guests

Tickets will be required for all University Commencement ceremonies. Each graduate will be emailed a link to download six (6) electronic tickets. Graduates themselves will not require a ticket. Children two (2) years of age and younger will not require tickets. Additional tickets will not be issued.

Beginning spring 2023, a commencement ticket lottery program will be introduced. This program will give graduates an opportunity to give back unused tickets to the commencement ticket pool. Tickets that are given back will be reallocated to other graduates who need additional commencement tickets for their respective commencement ceremony. Parking

Complimentary parking for commencement ceremonies will be available at the Stadium Garage located at 3874 Holman St. Houston TX, 77204.

 

Accessibility Guide

ADA ACCESSIBILITY ACCOMODATIONS
The University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to guests with disabilities. The Fertitta Center is designed with ADA accessible parking, restrooms, concessions, ATMs and seating areas. For more information, fans can call the Houston Athletics Ticket Office at 713.Go.Coogs (462-6647).

Entrances
All public entrances are ADA accessible.
 
Seating Areas
The Fertitta Center has ADA accessible seating in Sections 103, 107, 110, 111, 115, 116, 117 and in the Sideline Club.
 
Handicap Parking - Stadium Garage (Visitor Entrance)
Handicap parking for the Commencement is available on the first level (visitor entrance) of the Stadium parking garage.  Entry into the garage requires a valid ADA compliant handicap license plate or hangtag. The charge to park on this level is $20 unless you have a Men’s Basketball parking pass from Cougar Pride in any donor lot, in which case entry is free with both the parking pass and valid ADA hangtag. Enter off Holman Street. You can access Holman Street from Scott Street or Cullen Boulevard.

ADDRESS
The Fertitta Center is located on the campus of the University of Houston at 3422 Cullen Blvd., Houston, TX 77204.  It is located on the corner Cullen Boulevard and Holman Street, next to the Guy V. Lewis Development Facility. 

ATM
An ATM is located inside the Fertitta Center on the concourse level behind section 104. 

BABY CHANGING AREAS
Baby changing stations are located in every restroom in the arena.  Restrooms are located behind sections 101, 105, 107, 109, 111, 117, and 119.

CLEAR BAG POLICY
In an effort to provide a safer environment for the public and significantly expedite fan entry into the arena, the University of Houston Athletics Department will follow its Clear Bag policy for the upcoming basketball season, and all events inside of the Fertitta Center.

The UH Clear Bag Policy strictly limits the size and types of bags that are permitted into the Fertitta Center.  Items such as backpacks, purses and diaper bags are not permitted.  Fans are strongly encouraged not to bring any bags. However the following will be permitted.

Name Cards

While you are in your department line, you will receive a graduation name card (mentioned above) on which you clearly print the phonetic spelling of your name. Hold your card until your turn on stage. Your name will be read from this card as you cross the stage.

Master graduates will wear their hoods for the processional.

 

Photographs

Flash Photography will be the official photographer for our ceremony will be taking individual photos during the ceremony. Flash Photography will send the proofs to you so that you can decide if you want to order prints. The photographer will already have your mailing address. If you do not receive the proofs within 30 days of your commencement, please contact Flash Photography at 800-410-8070.

 

Special Needs

Registered CSD Students needing any additional services or have special requests must notify asc [at] uh.edu (asc[at]uh[dot]edu) at least 2 WEEKS prior to their scheduled university commencement.
