Trying to blend the efforts of Research & Development laboratory
scientists, aerospace engineers, and NASA misson operators was
a daily battle. John Lowery, founder of Design at Work
(a Houston-area graphics design firm) and creator of the
conceptual WSF artwork you see here, was commissioned to
produce a piece to help unify the disparate technical
cultures working on the Wake Shield project. This spoof of a
popular (at the time) group of superheroes still graces the
walls and filing cabinets of many offices at Johnson Space
Center. To this day WSF alumni speculate as to who inspired
which characters. Can you find the Aggie pocket protector?
