Trying to blend the efforts of Research & Development laboratory scientists, aerospace engineers, and NASA misson operators was a daily battle. John Lowery, founder of Design at Work (a Houston-area graphics design firm) and creator of the conceptual WSF artwork you see here, was commissioned to produce a piece to help unify the disparate technical cultures working on the Wake Shield project. This spoof of a popular (at the time) group of superheroes still graces the walls and filing cabinets of many offices at Johnson Space Center.
