Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

The more waste that UH campus members divert from the landfill, the higher UH will be ranked in the nationwide competition. This year the Student Center will complete within the Race to Zero Waste and E-cycleMania categories. Learn what you can recycle by visiting the recycling on campus page.

Attend and collect your RecycleMania button at each event for a chance to win a Sustainable Semester Survival kit!

The Office of Sustainability is hosting four events to increase awareness of and participation in RecycleMania 2017. At each event, the first 50 attendees will receive a RecycleMania button. For each button collected, attendees will receive an entry to win a Sustainable Semester Survival prize pack, which includes a lunch kit full of reusable supplies and a T-shirt. Limit of up to four entries per person.

To submit their entries, participants must take a picture of their button collections and post it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with @UHSustain and #UHRecycleMania. They may also email the picture to sustainability@uh.edu along with their contact information. All entries must be submitted by Friday, March 3.

Thursday, February 9	RecycleMania Kickoff
11a.m. to 2 p.m. Student Center South Plaza Stage	Join the Office of Sustainability, Student Center and UH Dining to kick off the four-week RecycleMania competition. Participate in our recycling games for a chance to win a T-shirt (while supplies last), and take the Student Center sustainable pledge #SCSUSTAIN.
Thursday, February 16	UH Dining Services Demonstration
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Student Center South (inside by the circle drive entrance)	UH Dining Services will provide a food waste demonstration. Take the opportunity to learn about sustainability related practices UH Dining Services has implemented to reduce, reuse and recycle!
Friday, February 24	Electronics Recycling Drive
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Student Center South Circle Drive	Are your out-of-date Nokia phones and VCR players collecting dust at home? In conjunction with Bass Computer Recycling, the Office of Sustainability will be hosting its third annual electronics drive. View the full list of recyclable items. Please print out this flyer and place it on your dashboard when dropping off electronics to be recycled.
Tuesday, February 28	February Sustainability Meetup
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Music Library (located in the Moores School of Music, Room 220)	Interested in upcycled crafting and want to connect with others who share the same curiosity? Join us for the February Sustainability Meetup! In conjunction with the UH Music Library, the Office of Sustainability will host a DIY book bag activity utilizing recycled plastic bags and recycled clothing. Vegan and gluten-free snacks and drinks will be provided. Limited to 40 participants. Make sure to register before Feb. 24 and RSVP on Facebook.
