Earth Week 2016
Earth Week is a series of educational events, socials and service projects intended to spark intrigue in environmental topics. Featuring outdoor trips, volunteerism, movies, campus tours and activities, UH Earth Week sheds light on the importance of sustaining our environment for generations to come and demonstrates how Cougars can lead the way and be a part of sustainable solutions.
Students, faculty and staff who attend the events or post on any social media outlet why or how they celebrate the earth with #UHEarthWeek will be entered to win a folding seven-speed bicycle! Increase your chances to win the bike by attending multiple Earth Week events in person. Attend events during UH Earth Week to win a sustainability T-shirt, reusable bottle and notebook made of recycled materials. A valid Cougar Card ID should be presented at each event to win prizes. All events are free unless a price is listed in the description.

Backpacking Trip - Sam Houston National Forest. Enjoy a weekend of backpacking along the Lone Star Trail in the Sam Houston National Forest. Gear, transportation and meals are provided! UH Student - $60 Guest - $90 |

Earth Day Houston - Sam Houston Park. Earth Day Houston, organized by Air Alliance Houston, is the Houston area’s premier celebration of our planet at Sam Houston Park. Earth Day Houston showcases more than 100 booths and exhibits. Visit the University of Houston tent in the Sustainability Zone! |

UH Earth Week Kickoff - CANCELLED - Butler Plaza - Due to extreme weather the Earth Week Kickoff has been cancelled. An alternative activity will be posted on the UH Earth Week Facebook event. |
| 6 - 8 p.m. | Earth Week Service Night - CANCELLED - Student Center South. Service Night is hosted by the MVP. Volunteers will be making eco-friendly, sustainable crafts along with the regular cards and sandwiches! |

Volunteering in the Garden - Postponed - Campus Community Garden. Join the MVP in the Campus Community Garden to weed, harvest and more! Supplies will be provided. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes. |

Rescheduled Central Plant Tour - Central Plant. Visit the UH Central Plant to learn about sustainable initatives undertaken there. You'll see the UH solar array, boilers, chillers and more! This event was rescheduled due to Houston flooding. |
| 1 - 2 p.m. | Vegan to it, build up to it, DIY: Parfaits - FFC. Private Dining rm. Participants will be able to craft their own parfait accordingly to lifestyle and nutritional needs (with vegan options available). No DIY project is complete without mason jars. |
| 6 - 8 p.m. | Outdoor Documentary Screening of "Flow" - Join MVP at Lynn Eusan Park. A documentary on sustainability and the politics and controversy surrounding bottled water. |

April Sustainability Meetup - Health & Biomedical Sciences Building. One installment of the new four-part docu-series Cooked will be shown. Attendees will group up to compete in a Guac Off. Vegan food and drinks will be provided. |
| April 22 - EARTHDAY 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. |
ScavengEarth Hunt - UH Campus. Teams of two will stop at 5 destinations across campus by following clues that will be posted to Facebook and Twitter at one-hour intervals. Be sure to post your picture! |
| 8:30 a.m. - noon | McGovern Centennial Gardens Volunteer Event - Hermann Park. The McGovern Centennial Garden is a part of the Hermann Park Conservancy, an organization dedicated to the stewardship and improvement of Hermann Park. Volunteers are needed to perform garden maintenance and beautification. |

Walk Down Sustainability Lane - All residence halls on campus. Start in your favorite residence hall, obtain your punch card, and then visit two other residence halls' events in order to receive a bonus prize. |

Shasta's Prairie Planting Party - POSTPONED to May 1 - Urban Forest west of SR2. Help restore Houston’s roots by volunteering to establish Shasta’s Prairie, the university’s first-ever, on-campus pocket prairie. Volunteers are needed to plant seeds, grasses and wildflowers. Supplies and lunch will be provided to all volunteers. |
