Competitions as Co-Curricular Learning

competitions-as-co-curricular-learning

Competitions are a dynamic way of engaging students in co-curricular learning. José C. Martínez, Arlene D. Ramirez, and Scott Taylor, Jr. will explain how they structured hackathons to provide high-impact experiences for students.

Martínez leads cloudathon@uh, an annual student competition in the College of Technology. Student teams compete to develop the best solution to cloud-computing challenges.

Ramirez and Taylor developed the New Reality Hospitality Challenge to address challenges the hospitality industry faced in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Student teams proposed solutions to problems faced by small businesses.
