Call for Proposals for Potential Use of Space

Dear Faculty, Department Chairs, and Deans:

President Khator has requested that faculty submit proposals for potential use of space created during the core renovation project of several existing buildings on the main campus (S&R II building, the Melcher Pool Area and the Student Health Services building) and at the Texas Medical Center (Pharmacy building). At her request, we have created a set of criteria that should be addressed in each proposal. Proposals should:

  • Be approved and supported by the dean of the college, while supporting and advancing the college strategic plan and its priorities
  • Make a compelling case for significant impact on student success in undergraduate and/or graduate education and training
  • Address the critical needs of an expanding research enterprise
  • Suggest exciting, new, and innovative usage for renovated space, not replacement of existing or resassigned space
  • Support and advance the creation of interdisciplinary learning environments and inquiry
  • Place a priority on the use of renovated space for instructional purposes (i.e. classrooms), including projects that utilize the newest classroom technologies available
  • Demonstrate that the proposed use of the renovated space and facilities is realistic and can be accomplished in the shortest time possible
  • Include a quantifiable return on investment and impact on the performance of the proposing unit(s)
  • Include a finite timeline and metrics for assessing the utilization of renovated space and a plan for possible reassignment of the space if these utilization metrics are not met

We ask that you submit your proposal no later than October 13, 2017 via email to

Warm regards,
