I am pleased to announce Dr. George E. Fox, Professor of Biology and Biochemistry, as the 2016 Esther Farfel Award recipient. The award is given in recognition of excellent teaching, research, scholarship, and service.
The Farfel Award was presented April 14 at the Faculty Excellence Awards Dinner, recognizing the extraordinary talents and gifts of our faculty. The University recognized 34 recipients of the Teaching Excellence Award across 9 categories, 3 recipients of the Mentoring Undergraduate Research Award, 6 recipients of the Excellence in Research, Scholarship, or Creative Activity Award, and 2 new recipients of the Moores Professorship.
Dr. Fox is an active researcher at the University, with over $8,636,897 raised in grant funding since 1978. One of his students praised him for being "one of those rare educators who can make complex topics understandable. Better yet, while doing so, he makes them interesting. This is because he is passionate about biology." He is one of the most cited people in his field, with close to 200 publications and 17,000 citations.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Fox for his exceptional service to the University and on this well-deserved distinction.
