Please encourage your high-achieving students to take advantage of the following opportunities offered through the Honors College and the Office of Undergraduate Research.
Houston Scholars Program
Supported by the Office of the Provost and the Honors College, the Houston Scholars program is designed to bolster students' academic and professional goals through faculty mentoring, research proposal development, and a semester seminar series led by University of Houston faculty from across the campus. Houston Scholars learn about national and international award opportunities and receive assistance in developing applications for competitive programs. This program is open to all high-achieving undergraduates at the University of Houston. Interested students should request a letter of nomination from a UH faculty or staff member. Once a student is nominated, they complete an online application. Applications for the program are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. More information on the program is available here.
Houston's Early Research Experience (HERE)
Designed for freshmen and sophomores who are interested in getting started in research, the HERE program allows outstanding students to spend two weeks working with faculty, reading academic articles, and collaborating with professors and peers to address a grand challenge. This faculty-led workshop is from May 16-27, 2016, and all participants receive a $1000 scholarship for the fall 2016 semester upon completing the program. More information on this exciting new program is available here.
