Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
I invite each of you to join me to hear the distinguished author of The Rise, our Provost Summer Read book, Sarah Lewis, at Cullen Performance Hall, on Wednesday, September 23 at 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the University of Houston community.
Sarah is a professor in the Art and Architecture, and African and African American Studies departments at Harvard University. Her book, The Rise: Creativity, the Gift of Failure, and the Search for Mastery was our inspirational text this year and her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Art Forum, and Art in America.
A former member of President Barack Obama's Arts Policy Committee, Sarah has also held curatorial positions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Modern in London. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard, a Masters of Philosophy from Oxford University, and a Ph.D. from Yale University in History of Art.
Needless to say, we are excited to have Sarah on campus. I hope you will join me September 23 to welcome Sarah to our University and learn more about her extraordinary journey and wisdom.
