Dear UH Faculty, Staff, and Students:
I invite each of you to join me to hear ABC News Anchor and Chief National Correspondent Byron Pitts at Cullen Performance Hall, on Monday, September 15 at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the University of Houston community.
Byron's autobiography "Step Out on Nothing" was selected as the common book for the 2014 Provost Summer Read program and more than 1,200 first-year students have participated in faculty-led discussion sessions. Whether you have read his book or not, Byron will be an inspiration. Growing up in Baltimore, Byron conquered illiteracy to earn a college degree and defeated a speech disorder to become a global journalist, honored with four regional and two national Emmy Awards and four Associated Press Awards.
Needless to say, we are excited to have Byron on campus. Join me and welcome him to our University and learn more about his extraordinary journey and success.
