International Education Week 2021

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. The purpose of IEW is to promote the benefits of international education and cultural exchange. IEW is celebrated across the United States on an annual basis during the third week of November. This year, IEW will occur November 15-19, 2021. At the University of Houston, IEW is an opportunity to showcase the various global programs and international opportunities as well as celebrate our cultural diversity.

Monday, November 15th

  • IEW Opening Ceremony, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, Student Center South - Houston Room
    Join us for a special celebration to kick-off IEW! Drop by to learn about the global programs, offices, and student organizations on campus. We will have interactive booths, cultural performances, free shirts, snacks, and prizes! (Sponsored by ISSSO/UH Global)

  • Female Stardom and Alternative Femininity in Contemporary East Asia, 7:00 – 8:00 pm, Virtual (Zoom)
    Guest lecture by Ph.D. Candidate Wang Pai of UC San Diego will talk about female cultural icons in East Asian film and music industries and the cultural trends of xiaoqingxin (little freshness) and kawaii (cuteness) in Taiwan and Japan.
