December 18, 2020 Message from ISSSO regarding student insurance coverage

Dear Student,

Please read the information carefully and complete the Spring 2021 Insurance Acknowledgement by 1/11/2021 if you do not wish to have UH student health insurance coverage for the Spring and Summer 2021.

The UH System policy concerning mandatory health insurance requirements for international students holding a F or J visa states:

A student enrolled in an approved distance education program and is residing outside of the United States for the full coverage period should have their student account updated prior to the semester waiver deadline to avoid being charged.

Due to COVID-19, some international students may be enrolled in online courses only and residing outside of the United States during the Spring and Summer 2021. In order for the University of Houston to remove the insurance charge for the Spring 2021 semester, the student must be outside the U.S. during the entire period from 1/1/2021 through 7/31/2021 and submit the Spring 2021 Insurance Acknowledgement by 1/11/2021. Your health insurance fee charged to your UH student account will be removed or credited to your student account on 1/19/2021. You should check your student account on 1/20/2021 to verify that the insurance fee is removed if you are eligible.

In the event that you are coming to the U.S. earlier than 7/31/2021, you must enroll in the UH System endorsed Student Health Insurance Plan from your first day in the United States through 8/31/2021. A student entering the U.S. prior to 7/31/2021 should enroll directly with AHP under a Students with a Qualifying Life Event.

Regards,

ISSSO
